Betton Hills and Midtown sit under the heaviest live oak canopy in Tallahassee, on top of homes built mostly in the 1940s through the 1960s. Low-slung midcentury rooflines under enormous oaks are a specific design problem, and it is not solved by adding more roof lighting. It is solved by using the trees.
Low rooflines under enormous oaks. A single-story Betton Hills ranch has a long, low roof that sits well beneath the canopy. From the street the roof line is broken up by branches and Spanish moss. Wrapping the oaks and lighting the pathway and entry brings the display down to where it is visible, and the roofline becomes the accent rather than the whole show.
Canopy roads change the light. Centerville, Meridian, and Old Bainbridge are protected canopy roads, and the streets running off them are dark at night in a way newer subdivisions are not. That works in your favor — there is no competing street lighting, so a well-designed display carries much further here than it would on an open road.
Older houses need attachment chosen per surface. Homes in this part of town have wood fascia, original trim, older gutters, and additions that meet the main roof at odd angles. Clips are matched to the actual surface, nothing is nailed or stapled, and mismatched rooflines get designed as they are rather than forced into a straight run.
Los Robles and the historic streets read differently. Around Los Robles and the older Midtown blocks the houses are grander and closer to the street, with columns, porticos, and entry gates. Garland, column wrapping, and door work do more for these homes than long roof runs, and they respect the architecture instead of competing with it.
One price, everything handled
Every Betton Hills display is quoted as one all-inclusive seasonal price, and that price covers all of the following. There are no per-visit service fees, no takedown charge, and no storage bill in January.

Into the trees and along the ground first. On a canopied Betton Hills lot the roofline is only partly visible from the street, so wrapped oak trunks, pathway lighting, and entry work carry the display and the roof becomes the finishing line rather than the whole design.
No. Nothing is nailed or stapled into fascia, trim, or shingles. Clips are chosen for the specific surface on your house, and everything comes off in January with no evidence it was there.
Yes. On historic and older homes the attachment method is matched to the surface, and where original trim is involved the design shifts to columns, garland, railings, and landscape lighting so the trim is not touched at all.
